A type of "muscadine" grape native to southern North America. It is also known as the "scupanon", "scupadine" or "scufadine" in some parts of the South. The name comes from the area of discovery, the Scuppernong River. It was first cultivated during the 17th century. It is a very durable fruit, and will grow well anywhere from -12 degrees celsius and up. Unlike grapes scuppernongs will grown not in clusters but in clusters of three or four.
Scuppernongs have very tough skin but taste very similar to grapes, except noticeably sweeter.
